精子中心体機能検査
ICSI後の発育停止卵子の解析より精子中心体機能不全が存在することが明らかにされている(図26)。我々は哺乳動物卵子細胞質を用いて精子中心体機能を測定するシステムを開発した。まず、ヒトの精子をウサギあるいはウシ卵へ顕微注入し異種間においてもヒトの精子がsperm asterを形成することを示した。ウシ卵子内でのヒト精子星状体の形成を図27に示す。次いで、臨床の不妊症例の余剰精子ではコントロールのドナー精子と比較して星状体形成率が優位に低いことを明らかにした。さらに、臨床の精液検査のパラメーター（精子数、運動率）、臨床IVFでの前核形成率、分割率と星状体形成率を比較したところ、精液検査のパラメーターや前核形成率とは相関せず、前核形成胚の分割率と相関した。つまり高分割率群が低分割率群より星状体形成率が優位に高い結果が得られた。このことによりこのアッセイは受精後半の胚発生能を予測できる新しい精子機能検査であることが明らかとなった。
さらにこの系を用いて頭部円形精子症（Globozoospermia:）やDFS（Dysplasia of fibrous fibrous shaeth：南米や北アフリカに多い家族性の奇形精子症でカルタゲナー症候群類似の疾患であり、fibrous sheathの肥厚による尾部の形成異常があり運動性が消失している）などの奇形精子症にて星状体形成率の低下を報告した(図28)。すなわちこれらの奇形 精子は精子が卵子内へ侵入する能力のみならず、PIEIFの機能も低下していることが明らかになった。
