Community Nursing

In community nursing, we learn to provide nursing care for a wide variety of patients, including those of all ages with a range of health conditions, who live in our community. The field broadly divides into two subfield: First, home care nursing involves nursing care provided to patients recovering at home and their families. Second, public health nursing includes promoting public health such as health maintenance and encouragement of health and disease prevention.

Associate Professor Makiko Nagaoka
My research involves discharge support, collaboration in medical care, community health care, and home care nursing. I am interested in exploring ideas about the types of support that are necessary for people with an illness or disability to live securely in the community. My goal is to help ensure that people in the community can live in good health with nursing professionals available as needed.

Assistant Professor Tomoe Fujita
My area of specialization is community nursing, and my main role is to train public health nurses. We encourage students to visualize problems from the perspectives of people living in the community and to promote public health activities that address them. My research topics include “Visions on life and death in community residents and associated medical needs,” “Mutual help between community residents,” and “Supporting People with Dementia.”

Assistant Professor Minako Yokoe
My research areas include care in nursing facilities, multi-professional collaboration and community symbiosis. My research is focused on care for local residents, especially the elderly and those with disabilities, with the objective of enabling them to continue living in their own communities. I’m also interested in exploring the relationships among those involved in nursing care, which I believe will contribute to a more community-based, inclusive society.

Assistant Professor Akiko Sato
My research areas are preventative care, defecation care, and constipation. I would like to contribute to the community through my research on preventive care. In addition, my research on defecation care and constipation focuses on women’s health. I would like to conduct research that will benefit people who have trouble with their bowel movements.
