Dr. Koizumi gave a lecture titled “Fascinated by the Power of Microorganisms: My Research Journey That Began with an Encounter with the Discoverer of Statins" at the one-year memorial event commemorating the late Dr. Akira Endo. Dr. Endo, originally from Higashi-Yuri, Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture, achieved worldwide recognition for the discovery of statins, a groundbreaking class of drugs used to treat hyperlipidemia. Although Dr. Endo sadly passed away in June last year, Dr. Koizumi—who first met him as a student and was deeply influenced by that encounter—paid tribute to his remarkable achievements and shared personal memories and reflections on his research journey.
