Division and Department

Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

Takechiyo YAMADA, MD, PhD

A Greeting from the Professor

We have specialized in otorhinolaryngology, including head and neck malignant tumor surgery requiring reconstruction by autologous transplantation, endoscopic nasal sinus surgery, hearing improvement surgery, skull base surgery, pharynx and voice function improvement surgery also using endoscopies every field. All head and neck surgeries can be performed. Regarding the treatment of head and neck tumors and cancer, we have achieved the highest level of results and are actively working to improve the treatment results of head and neck cancer. In the basic and clinical field of nasal allergy, which is one of the main themes of the department, we are conducting basic and clinical research and have achieved many achievements. In the field of neuro-otology, surgical treatment (including endolymphatic sac detachment and acoustic neuroma) has been performed for dizziness that is difficult to treat conservatively, with satisfactory results. Hearing improvement surgery for various ear diseases is performed, including cochlear implants and middle ear implants, and the hearing loss screening system in Akita Prefecture, including universities. In terms of research activities, of course, we are actively conducting clinical research on treatment methods and treatment results.
