The Blair administration worked to achieve these goals.

However, it tolerated radical anti-animal experimentation movements.

Activities of SHAC in the United Kingdom

SHAC, a terrorist group claiming to be an animal protection organization, began harassing and threatening employees, investors, and business partners of Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), an animal testing contractor, in 1999.

As a result, the company's stock price collapsed, and HLS faced the danger of bankruptcy with debts of approximately 4 billion yen.

In 2000, more than 100 prominent medical scientists appealed to the Minister for Science to protect biomedical research in the United Kingdom.

The Blair administration, judging that the situation threatened national interests, protected HLS and issued statements condemning SHAC's tactics.
